Call for Interest : Reciprocal Exchanges & Visits Objectives
Action 1: Short term Visits of Chinese scientists to major European research centres and vice versa The European EFBIC Red Office and the Chinese EFBIC Red Office at CNCBD, in cooperation with the European Federation of Biotechnology, the National Contact Points for “Health” in Italy and Austria and Europe Unlimited, will help to organise “scientific visits” at European and Chinese research centres for focused topics of Genomics, Health, Ageing, TCM, Regenerative Medicine and Diabetes in relation to the Information & Partnering Fora. These visits will allow Chinese and European scientists to make contact with research organisations in Europe and China on a personal basis, and vice versa, with the view of establishing joint partnerships and consortia. Such visits will raise the awareness in Europe and China about reciprocal opportunities for cooperation. The visits may take place in the form of individual scientists or small groups. A report on each visit must be submitted to the EFBIC RED consortium. The standard grant/reimbursement covering travel, hotel and meals amounts to maximum € 2.500 (two thousand five hundred). Call 2 for Action 1: Call Identifier: EFBIC Red-Action 1-Call 02-2008 Standard grant/reimbursement covering travel, hotel and meals amounts to a maximum of € 2.500,-- (two thousand five hundred) per visit. European Expressions of Interest (EoI) : The standard grant/reimbursement covering travel, hotel and meals amounts to maximum € 2.500 (two thousand five hundred) Call 1 for Action 1: The first action was a pilot project in Italy and Austria. The deadline for submitting applications was 12:00 noon on March 1st 2008. THIS CALL HAS NOW CLOSED. Action 2: Reciprocal exchanges of scientists and policy makers This is a call for submission of Expressions of Interest (EoI) for EU and Chinese scientists and strategy planners to travel to each others leading research institutes and academic and industry centres in order to prepare future cooperation and build joint consortia. An exchange report on each visit must be submitted to EFBIC RED (the corresponding e-mail address will be displayed on the EFBIC Red Homepage in due course). The “scientific visits” at European and Chinese research centres should focus on one or more of the follwing topics: Genomics, Health, Ageing, TCM, Infectious Diseases, Regenerative Medicine and Diabetes (as covered by the EFBIC Red Information & Partnering Fora) Call 2 for Action 2:

Deadline for submission of Expressions of Interest was August 20th 2008 Action 3: Support for participation to major conferences in Europe and China In order to raise the awareness in Europe of Chinese science and provide opportunities for networking, the major European and Chinese conferences covering topics as Genomics, Health, Ageing and TCM will be identified and Chinese and European scientists will be proposed as speakers to these conferences by the EFBIC Red Offices following recommendations by the EFBIC Red SSMB Board. The conference organisers are expected conventionally to cover travel and subsistence expenses of the proposed speakers and EFBIC Red will consider supplement this where funding is not available. Reports of presentations at conferences must be submitted.
